I have a new blogging home!: Introducing

I have been plodding along creating this blog, but without any real deadlines. That is until I feel like sharing a post on Facebook that I wrote and infinitely opening up my audience. It was a scary thought at first, especially because my blog was not anywhere near where I want it to be, I decided to do it anyway. I got a lot of amazing feedback. Thank you! And I knew I was going to have to get to work building a permanent home for my blog which I am pleased to announce can now be found at: Bear with me as transferring the posts has been a complicated process and I still have some updating to do, but I can see the vision and am very excited!

Dear Black People: Please Stop Engaging in the Oppression Olympics with Orlando

In case you are unaware, on June 12th, a lone gunman entered Pulse, an Orlando gay club and proceeded to murder, injure, and hold hundreds of people hostage. News outlets have been referring to this as the deadliest mass shooting in the United States. The first time I saw someone post questioning whether this was the “deadliest” shooting or not, specifically reference the Tulsa Massacre and Black Wall Street, I just ignored it, hoping it was a single misguided thought that happened to stumble its way onto Facebook, but as more of my Facebook friends have been jumping on the bandwagon, I feel like I need to talk to my people for a minute. My Black people. We, of all people, should know that no good will ever come from playing the Oppression Olympics.

And we, more than any other group, should know better. Our pain cannot and will not ever negate the pain of our fellow brothers and sisters, and quite frankly, referencing it at a time like this is inappropriate. I cannot tell you how many times I have shared my experience as a Black person with someone to have them immediately minimize my experience by telling me about Irish slaves or the Holocaust.

Thank you so much for reading my blog! I am moving my blog to a new home, so to read this rest of this article please head over to

Cliffs, and Caves, and Cacti, Oh my!: Abalone Cove

Of all the LA adventures we have had thus far this one was by far my favorite. I stumbled across Abalone (which I learned is pronounced like abalone-y listen here) Cove while I was looking for places to go “hiking.” I say hiking in quotation marks because we I first told Wayne I wanted to go hiking he asked me since when did I enjoy hiking. I pointed out that we went to the Nichols Arboretum several times and I loved it.

A rainy day at the arboretum

LA Livin’

This summer has been very exciting for Wayne and I. He got an internship with a company he can actually see himself working for right outside of LA and since I was only planning on taking online classes anyway, I decided to come with him. Finding housing was the worse experience ever and we are paying way more than I’d like for a tiny studio Airbnb. It is kind of weird but nearly everyone here has a “front house” and “back house” as I call them, so we are living in on of the smaller back houses. I was really surprised to see these two houses on one lot because that is not something I have seen anywhere else, but it is nice because I still have a full kitchen and it was furnished, unlike the apartment options we were looking into.
